20 Mar The right gearbox keeps you in gear
When it comes to selecting the right gearbox, it’s important to eliminate the guesswork.
If you guess what’s the best and it doesn’t give optimal performance, it could become a costly exercise.
EQM’s Anthony Bloxham says the best approach to deciding on the most effective gearbox is to speak to an expert.
Anthony says in many cases a gearbox has a heavy workload with some working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
EQM always undertakes a checklist prior to recommending a gearbox.
The checklist looks at what the gearbox will be used for, the amount of time it will operate (fulltime or irregularly) and the environmental conditions.
There’s no point installing a gearbox that isn’t powerful and fast enough to move the product its required to move, while it’s also a good idea to know if the gearbox is in a dry, hot or wet environment.
“Knowing as much information as possible eliminates any issues that could arise. The last thing you want is downtime.”
Anthony says in most cases it’s about coming up with the right technical calculation to identify the most suitable gearbox.
“In many cases the technical calculations might identify a gearbox that will adequately do the job”.
We then consider the service factor to make sure the gear box will run effectively at full capacity and if not we’ll recommend going up to a bigger size.
EQM stocks the STM range of gearboxes who are the third largest Italian manufacturer of gearboxes.
EQM decided to stock STM based on quality and the wide range of gearbox types, it manufactures in Italy.
