08 Jul NZ fruit icon goes global
It’s been reported that Feijoas are a fruit we most look forward to every summer. Demand for this unique kiwi icon gets stronger every year – not only in New Zealand but also overseas.
The New Zealand Feijoa Association has its own cool logo, which you apply to your fruit if you meet the high quality standard. EQM helped with the design and supply of the labels. This Feijoa Company gained the Feijoa association’s approval to export this season and quickly set about labelling the fruit.
Rather than the capital outlay for a labelling machine, which will only be used for a few months a year, Earl decided to lease a Dix hand labeller from EQM.
The Feijoa Company established an orchard and packhouse in Kaihere on the Hauraki Plains in 1974.
It was brought by Jill and Garry McIntosh in 1994 and converted to a specialised feijoa orchard, and now owned and operated by Hannah and Earle.
With two generations of orchardists at Kaihere, the McIntosh family has a solid background and experience in producing some of the best feijoas in New Zealand.
