03 Jul Conference and exhibition season in full swing
With the harvest season now over for 2017, the annual industry conferences and field days are being held throughout New Zealand. Many fruit and vegetable growing sector associations have their AGM’s at these events.
EQM has a strong presence at many of these events and has used the 2017 events as an opportunity to launch and demonstrate new products including the Reisopack mobile pallet strapping machine.
The first conference we attended was the Summerfruit Conference held in the middle of June in Mt Maunganui. This was a well-attended event considering the conference was held in an area not typically growing summerfruit. This fruit sector is looking very positive at present with a target of growing to be a $250 million industry by 2020. Leading the charge in growth is cherry production, so watch this space as EQM announces in the coming months more new equipment for this very specialised industry.
This was followed up by the National Horticulture Field Day in Hastings at the end of June, where the 2820 Reisopack strapper doing non-stop demonstrations was a crowd stopper. Not only attracting the attention of smaller packhouse operators but being a very viable option to medium and larger packhouse operations as an eccential backup plan when their fully automated machines breakdown.
Next up is the HortNZ Conference in Mt Maunganui on July 12-14 where we will be showcasing more new products along with the Reisopack strapping machine, the DigraPack handheld fruit labelling machine and new turnkey fruit handling systems from Italian company Unitec, with the latest in vision and internal defect sorting for a wide range of fruit and vegetables including apples, kiwifruit, blueberries and onions to name a few.
“The conferences and industry events is a great opportunity for us to meet up with growers, packhouse facility personnel as well as other industry leaders.”
If you’re attending the HortNZ conference make sure you drop by and see us at site 18. We are right next to a new supply partner in MiTech, who will be presenting the latest in print and apply label application systems for punnets and cartons of fruit and vegetables.
This collaboration was born out of the industry’s need for more adaptability and new pack date requirements on punnet labels. MiTech’s Quadrel and Smartdate systems can not only apply tamperproof labels but print pack dates, varieties, weights, eating qualities and even barcodes as the label is applied.
