28 Jun A “limit your risk” gearbox
Cleaning equipment also needs a good clean from time to time.
EQM has been involved in a project to replace gearboxes used on parts washing equipment based at Mechanic Shops all around New Zealand.
STM have a special accessory which fits into a standard gearbox as an inbuilt torque limiter and these are used in a wide range of equipment.
The ones we replaced are used to rotate mechanical parts when cleaning and degreasing them.
The limiter is built into the gearbox so that it protects it from being exposed to potential pollution prevalent in these workshop environments and are designed to perform reliably and almost wear-free operation.
As EQM’s Anthony Bloxham says the limiter provides security of operation on equipment such as parts washers, mixers and augers, to name a few.
“If there’s a high chance that the rotating system might get jammed during operation, this limiter device allows the output shaft to slip when the load reaches a predetermined torque. This avoids unnecessary electrical tripping and can prevent sudden shock loading from breaking the gearbox.”
These devices come fitted to the gearbox with an external adjustable hexagonal nut for altering the slip torque to the required limit. These torque limiters are designed to slip for several minutes at a time without damage.
This company decided that they needed to recondition their parts washers and fit new replacement gearboxes and they were faced with sourcing genuine parts from the original manufacturer overseas or look for an alternative nationally. They found us and we were able to quickly identify their need and more importantly provide exact replacements quick smart.
If you are looking for some replacement equipment or parts and think you might have to look overseas, give us a call instead. It’s likely we will have what you need in stock or not far away!
